When a Manchester United player receives a standing ovation at Elland Road you know he must have produced something special.
Even allowing for the fact that shell-shocked Leeds fans were so disillusioned they were perversely prepared to vent their anger by acknowledging their destroyer from the bitter enemy, the show of praise for Karel Poborsky was a unique and telling spectacle.
Fergie's Verdict
"It was an excellent performance by us. We showed great desire to come out and take the game to Leeds.
We got a good break with an early goal like that and it allowed us to play to a pattern. We got good width to our game. It could have been three or four at half time.
We hit them with a sucker punch in the second half. The goal came so quickly it was a difficult day for Leeds after that. It was almost impossible for them to come back.
But you've still got go about your own business in the right way and we did it well. The scoreline was a true reflection of the game.
I was encouraged by a lot of things. Karel Poborsky's first game away from home. We've given him a look at English football and now we've let him have a go at it.
He had a tremendously difficult time against Everton but against Leeds we kept him on the line and got good service to him. He scored and had a hand in two of the other goals. He did very well."
